Over the years I've heard many stories about the events that trigger celiac or gluten intolerance. This past week, however, I've listened to an unusual number about single, very traumatic moments that changed an individual's health dramatically.
As I was driving this afternoon I recalled where I'd heard things like this before: In a New Yorker magazine article about Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Seabiscuit. (To see the article, click here.) I also recalled that after reading the New Yorker article I turned to my wife and said, "Wow, here's a graphic description of power animal loss, but no one gets it."
Now, to clarify: Leslie is a shamanic practitioner (her site is here). Shamanic cultures believe that all individuals are born with protective animal spirits, Power Animals, that remain a part of our beings for life. However (I think I have this right), very traumatic events can frighten one's power animal away. If that happens, the person is then open to all sorts of invasive disorders because their spiritual energy has been diminished.
It is general knowledge that traumatic events can trigger a genetically predisposed individual into developing celiac disorder, but some of the stories I heard described conditions far more involved. So I have to wonder if some of these folks could be helped by a shaman. Yes I know this sounds "woo-woo", but Leslie has worked on me shamanically for disorders ranging from toothaches to skin infections and has really helped. If you've been reading these blogs you know I'm a pretty hard-headed, pro-science kind of guy. My endorsement of non-physical realities is very hard won.
I don't believe that celiac disorder can be undone. But I do think that other non-disease but disabling conditions can be relieved with help from the spiritual realm. So if you are one of those folks I heard from recently and you're willing to try the unconventional, you might track down a shamanic practitioner in your area.
